It's time to pack 'em up, and ship 'em out!

Sockapalooza 4 has come to an end, and it's time to mail the Scala Socks to their rightful owner. It's sad to say goodbye (they are pretty enough to be artwork!), but they were knit with a particular person in mind, and they must now join her.

Accompanying the socks: a custom-made sock label (visit Carole for instructions), some spare yarn, a chocolate bar, and a lovely card showing a 1916 map of Cambridge (published by WardMaps.com).

Once again I give myself a pat on the back for finding a creative alternative to the stereotypical postcard ;). I know I've mentioned that I collect antique maps and their reprints, so this note card immediately caught my eye. I got one for my pal, and one for myself, and then a few more for myself... In fact, I loved the WardMaps note cards so much, that I mounted three into a picture frame, displayed on the wall above my desk!

I got the idea from my parents, who have a similar montage of beautiful lighthouse note cards in their house.

What a neat idea to hang the postcards. I think it looks great.

Those socks are gorgeous. Your pal sure is lucky!

Your sock pal is lucky to have you as a pal! I love old maps too. There are a few or Manhattan that I've been meaning to get.

I used to live in Cambridge, in Quincy House, down the street from the Harvard Bookstore. Miss those days...

Oh, I really wish those socks were for me! (However, if they were, I'd probably be afraid to wear them because they're so gorgeous!) I certainly hope your sock pal realizes how lucky she is to be getting such beautiful and well made socks.

I love maps too! I love the frames that you have them in.
Oh, and if I haven't mentioned it before - lucky sockpal!!

I love maps too, and just recently matted and framed two postcard-style drawn maps of the Bahamas, that I bought while there. Fun!

Bye socks! Bye!

The wall hanging is a great idea!

I love vintage maps too! I have this dream of one day having a study with antique leather armchairs, a mahogony desk, and walls completely covered in old maps.

Your sock pal is lucky, I'd love to have some pretty socks and chocolate!

We bought a hand-colored antique reprint map on our honeymoon and it has hung in our living room ever since. Maps are a cool thing.

I've done the same with vintage postcards of the area I live in. So cool to do it with vintage maps!

Thanks for the link to WardMaps. My family comes from Cape Cod, and they have a map with my family's name on it on the property! I'll be ordering cards for gifts for my family....

That's a great idea for displaying those smaller maps. I too am a huge fan of maps. My college roommate used to make fun of me for hanging them on the wall.

The socks are lovely and the label is awesome!

The package looks great!

I'm debating sending chocolate to my pal in this weather.

OMG!! I can't believe they are leaving your presence!! *wrenches with pain* They are SO gorgeous I am still pining over them from when you 1st posted them.
I really like sock sleeve and will incorporate this once I give out my 1st pair of socks!! I am still so new to knitting them!

oh my ever-loving goodness! those socks are the coolest things i have seen in forever. i must make some.
beautiful sox in a beautiful wrapper -
your sockpal will swoon

That's gonna be a wonderful surprise for your sock pal. Socks knit by you, chocolate, and a map who wouldn't be happy.

LOVE those socks...you have a lucky pal. Thanks for the idea to frame postcards. I also have a very nice set of lighthouse postcards that have been in my desk for years.

Thanks so much for sharing that map site. I grew up in Brookline, and it was really cool to check out my old neighborhood in several different years. The 1913 map shows the outline of house I grew up in, in the year it was built, sans garage, and the 1927 map shows the later, larger footprint. Very fun - I will definitely be ordering some of these!

What a treat those socks are!

I am a HUGE fan of framing notecards! I have quite a few set aside for when I finally make the move. ;-)

That's a great idea with the maps! I have some cute arty postcards I got in France framed, and I've gotten many compliments on them. They're the perfect size.

And what a lucky sock pal you've got there!

Wait, wait -- I thought mailing date was August 7th, this Monday. Am I late?

I love that map site! I'll definitely spend some time looking it over. I thought I was the only one that loves old maps.

I, too, love old maps, and have bought several on ebay. Most are still in their shipping containers, as I haven't yet figured out what to do with them.
